2022, Marine Pollution BulletinCitation Excerpt :The pH in both the overlying water and sediments was in the order of GBO13 > GBO11 > GBO31 > control (p < 0.05) (Fig. 1b). The decrease in pH of the control in both the overlying water and sediments was due to the release of the organic acids from the decomposition of organic matter in the sediment (Nakamoto et al., 2015; Touch et al., 2017), as well as due to the alkalinity consumption during nitrification (Tanwar et al., 2008). Meanwhile, the high amount of OS in the sediments caused hydrolysis of CaO (Asaoka et al., 2012; Hermassi et al., 2017), promoting OH− production and resulting in a high pH (GBO13 > GBO11 > GBO31) in both the overlying water and sediment.

2021, Science of the Total EnvironmentCitation Excerpt :Chemical oxygen demand (COD) in wastewater and effluent was determined every 5 days and measured by Hach kits (Closed tube digestion, Hach) according to standard methods (APHA, 2005). The humidity and loss on ignition (LOI) were measured by oven and muffle furnace (Touch et al., 2017). Each test was run in duplicate.
