Determination of the nitrogen isotope enrichment factor associated with ammonification and nitrification in unsaturated soil at different temperatures
2021, Environmental ResearchCitation Excerpt :Under saturated and unsaturated conditions, Choi and Ro (2003) confirmed that the ϵp/s values of nitrification were −10 and −40‰, respectively. Song et al. (2014) investigated the isotopic fractionation effect of nitrification in five different soils and indicated that the ϵp/s is closely related to the nitrification capacity. Generally, ammonia gas (NH3) volatilization may occur under aerobic conditions during nitrification.
Nitrate source apportionment in groundwater using Bayesian isotope mixing model based on nitrogen isotope fractionation
2020, Science of the Total EnvironmentCitation Excerpt :Compared with previous studies, the ɛp/s values were lower in this study (Yun et al., 2011; Song et al., 2014; Yun and Ro, 2014). This may come from the weaker NH3 volatilization and stronger N immobilization and mineralization in the soil (Choi and Ro, 2003; Holloway et al., 2011; Song et al., 2014; Denk et al., 2017). During the incubation period, the nitrification rates (producing NO3−/consuming NH4+) at the different temperatures were only 55.71% and 79.17%, respectively.
