2015, Geoderma RegionalCitation Excerpt :In fact, this may have resulted in the use of a large number of samples from some regions or samples with exceedingly high or low micronutrient concentrations leading to dissimilar mean values in the two studies. The high Skewness and kurtosis values obtained in this work (> 1.32 and > 1.20, respectively) are suggestive of deviation of the results from a normal distribution, which was also previously observed in other studies on micronutrients over large areas (Liu et al., 2004; Franzen et al., 2006; Wang et al., 2009; Xie et al., 2011; Lu et al., 2012). This led us to apply a natural logarithm transformation to the variables prior to geostatistical analysis in order to fulfil the principles of the intrinsic hypothesis (Webster and Oliver, 2009).

2015, Field Crops ResearchCitation Excerpt :The observed concentrations of Zn in rice grains were lower than typical concentrations reported in the literature (Cakmak et al., 2004; Wissuwa et al., 2008). The observed concentrations of Mn in rice grains were also within the range reported in a previous study (Wang et al., 2009) and very much lower than the threshold values to be considered toxic to humans (Dube et al., 2002). The considerable loads of steel slag did not affect the status of heavy metals in rice grains in a way that could pose a risk of toxicity.
