Dissecting the combined effects of cultivar, fertilization, and irrigation on rhizosphere bacterial communities and nitrogen productivity in rice
2022, Science of the Total EnvironmentCitation Excerpt :For indica with high nitrogen requirement, the values of the above indicators were significantly higher under chemical fertilizer treatment than under organic plus chemical fertilizer treatment, while for japonica rice with low nitrogen requirement, there were no significant differences in the above indicators under different fertilizer types (Table 2). The soils treated with organic plus chemical fertilizers contained high concentrations of phosphorus and organic carbon, and high phosphorus levels could also enhance the accumulation of soil organic carbon through increased root turnover and rhizodeposition (Zhong et al., 2007). As mentioned above, because of the higher nitrogen demand in indica than in japonica, the proportion and abundance of indica rhizosphere bacteria involved in organic matter decomposition had increased to continuously decompose organic matter to provide soluble inorganic nitrogen for indica in organic plus chemical fertilizer treatment (Pathan et al., 2015; Zhong et al., 2010).
Responses of soil microbial communities to a short-term application of seaweed fertilizer revealed by deep amplicon sequencing
2018, Applied Soil EcologyCitation Excerpt :In CCA, invertase activity is positively correlated with all samples treated with fertilizer on day 0. Because organic fertilizer containing organic materials can increase soil organic matter, which can provide the carbon source of soil microbes (Wang et al., 2008; Zhong et al., 2007), so that its addition can stimulate soil invertase activity on day 0. After application for 60 days, dehydrogenase activity reveals a significant correlation with the individuals of fertilizer-treated soils, indicating the active utilization of carbon by different microbial taxa.
Effect of orchard age on soil nitrogen transformation in subtropical China and implications
2015, Journal of Environmental Sciences (China)Citation Excerpt :Thus, the effects of environmental variables and biological properties on organic N mineralization could be studied in the future. It has been well documented that agricultural use stimulates nitrification activity, particularly in humid subtropical soils (Zhang et al., 2013b; Zhong et al., 2007). Application of N fertilizers is an important factor stimulating nitrification activity in the soils (Zaman et al., 1999; Lu et al., 2012b; Zhang et al., 2012a).
Long-term effects of different organic and inorganic fertilizer treatments on soil organic carbon sequestration and crop yields on the North China Plain
2015, Soil and Tillage ResearchCitation Excerpt :In sum, conjunctive application of inorganic and organic fertilizers can increase crop yields substantially (Nie et al., 2007; Singh et al., 2007). Fig. 3(b) also showed that all treatments of the applied fertilizers can increase SOC compared with A1B1 (Zhong et al., 2007; Masto et al., 2007), the effect became stronger as more inorganic and organic fertilizers were added. This means that the best way of enriching soil was the combination of inorganic and organic fertilizers (Malhi et al., 2006).
